In February 2015, the UW South Madison Partnership opened its doors on Park Street. Its goal is to encourage closer collaborations between the university and the ethnically diverse South Madison community.
Madeline Hafner, Executive Director of the Minority Student Achievement Network, described the opening event as “a wonderful celebration of a reciprocal relationship between some of our most marginalized communities and UW–Madison.”
The idea for this partnership was hatched by an advisory group created in mid-2012 by Chancellor Rebecca Blank.
“Blank tasked the group with providing a set of best practice recommendations on how the university can help close the achievement gap in Dane County,” Hafner says.
Key members of the group include Everett Mitchell, UW–Madison’s Director of Community Relations, and Julissa Ventura, a fellow of the Community-University Exchange service learning program.
